As of 6 February 2026, the withdrawal of lev banknotes and coins and the entry into circulation of euro banknotes and coins has been proceeding in accordance with the applicable regulations and logistical plans.
As of the reporting date, circulating banknotes and coins total BGN 5.9 billion, meaning that 81% of lev cash in circulation has been withdrawn as compared to the beginning of 2025.
On the same date, euro banknotes and coins with a total value exceeding EUR 6.7 billion have been put into circulation, ensuring the smooth operation of the payment system and meeting the needs of the economy and the population.
Since 1 February 2026, the euro has been the only legal tender in the Republic of Bulgaria.
