The obverse features the coat of arms of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria and the numbers ‘19’ and ‘79’ on its sides. Underneath is the value ‘10 ЛЕВА’ (10 levs), flanked by two flowers. The design is surrounded by the words ‘НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (People’s Republic of Bulgaria) and an outer ring of stylised flowers.

The reverse depicts a group of three dancing children in national costumes, with the UNICEF emblem on the right and the Bulgarian emblem of the International Year of the Child on the left. The entire design is encircled by the words ‘МЕЖДУНАРОДНА ГОДИНА НА ДЕТЕТО*1979*’ (International Year of the Child*1979*) and an outer ring of stylised flowers.
