The obverse features the coat of arms of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria and the numbers ‘19’ and ‘80’ on its sides, with the value ‘1 ЛЕВ’ (1 lev), framed by a wreath of laurel twigs below, all surrounded by the words ‘НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (People’s Republic of Bulgaria) and an outer dotted ring.

The reverse features the FIFA World Cup, flanked by figures of footballers, with the inscriptions ‘1982 FIFA WORLD CUP’ above them and ‘COPA MUNDIAL FIFA’ in the Cup’s base. The design is encircled by the words ‘СВЕТОВНО ПЪРВЕНСТВО ПО ФУТБОЛ’ (World Football Championship) and ‘ИСПАНИЯ–1982’ (Spain-1982) and an outer dotted ring.
